Playscheme 2008

The Summer Playscheme is run over 10 days in the school summer holidays and is for 8 to 11-year-olds. It has been running for over twenty years and is open to children across the city, with discounted places being offered as a priority to children from the local inner city LS7, thanks to support from Leeds City Council and Leeds Play Network. It is extremely popular, with places selling out quickly every year .

The activities are based around outdoor play and the natural world and are designed to break down barriers, increase co-operation and develop a greater awareness of nature. It has a low cost approach, as part of the farm’s ethos of recycling and using the natural environment.

Highlights from previous Playschemes include:

  • Archery
  • Romans day
  • Soap and candle making
  • Grass sledging
  • Recycled boat race
  • Sugarwell Hill Race
  • CSI Meanwood day, with a visit from the local Community Police
  • Zoo Lab where children could handle giant spiders and millipedes.
  • Bikes, boards & blades day trip to Meanwood Park

The emphasis for the play scheme is definitely on fun; the children get to socialise and make new friends from a diverse mix of backgrounds, whilst learning about the environment.

The Playscheme runs in the first 2 weeks of August for 8 to 11 year olds. To book a place email education@mvuf.org.uk.
