The Birds of Meanwood Valley

Meanwood Valley Urban Farm provides a home to a great variety of bird life all the year round helped by the diversity of habitat to be found on the site. From Meanwood Beck and the surrounding woodland to the new bird feeding station, gardens and fields, the air is alive with avian activity.

Spring is the best time to hear birds as they noisily mark out there territories. By summer birds are usually involved with bringing up their offspring. This can be closely followed in the EpiCentre where a nest box camera reveals the secret life of a family of Great Tits.

During the winter, Fieldfares and Redwings can be found in the fields or feeding on the berries in the hedgerows. Goldcrests often join the resident mixed flocks of Blue Tits and Long-Tailed Tits using the feeding station or raiding the gardens.

Many of the birds listed below can be seen on the Farm at all times. However, do not forget to look up as both Buzzard and Red Kite have been seen over the Farm.
