Alpacas are originally from South America, particularly the Andes in Peru. They are a member of the camelid family and were domesticated about 7000 years ago by the Incas.
Alpacas have a lifespan of about 20 years and stand about a metre tall at the highest part of their backs.
They eat grass all year round and also enjoy hay on a regular basis.

Our original Alpacas arrived at Meanwood Valley Urban Farm with the generous support of Sainsbury’s.
