Award Winning Recycled Mountain Bike Project
Yes, we won a City and Community Pride Award from Leeds City Council, City Services Department, for our Recycled Mountain Project.
The project has had a great year with 10 ladies bikes sent to Romania for Medicare Nurses to visit their patients on. Many trainees have received bikes, which they now use to come to work on and our first bike to go to a project helping unemployed people commute, is now in use. All these bikes were removed from the waste stream or donated by West Yorkshire Police.

They were then rebuilt by young people on our ReConnect Programme, they learn the mechanical skills and have chance to improve their cycling skills before going on an exciting off road ride. What a great introduction to an accessible (Olympic) sport.

In the near future we hope to have a more permanent and secure space for the project and we are looking at funding and partnership opportunities.
The Bike Project is delivered from the new Workshop sponsored by Millennium Commission and Green Leeds Limited Biffaward as part of the Lower Courtyard Centre development.
Many thanks to West Yorkshire Police – Chapeltown Police Station and Meanwood Household Waste Site who donate the bikes.
