With 2013 well underway, we have an update on our Bees from our resident Bee Man, Tim.
‘Start of the Beekeeping Year
Ben and I ventured out into yesterday (30 Jan) squalls to do the first beekeeping job of the year. Fortunately the weathr wasn’t too bad whilst we actually had the hives open, but riding back from the moors we got walloped by a massive hailstorm.
Oxalic Acid trickle treatment is one of the measures we use agaianst varroa (mites). Ben actually saw a mite on one of the bees whilst we were doing it. All four colonies seem in pretty good shape so far! Though one of them is a bit small, and will need some TLC early doors.
The next job is to bring the moorland hives home. It’s a job for sometime in February, depending on the weather.’
Thanks Tim. Keep tuned for further updates through the year.
